Symphony performance, RPC auditions coming up

The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra  continues its 2008-09 season, “Global Journeys,” this weekend. Each concert this season has featured music from a different country or region, and Saturday’s concert is “Latin Fiesta.” The show will feature Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, DeFalla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Galindo’s Sounds of the Mariachis, Turina’s Rapsodia Sinfonica, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol. The guest artist is pianist Raffi Besalyan.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the RiverPark Center. Contact the RiverPark Center box office at 687-2787 for ticket information.

The RiverPark Center  will also be hosting auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of The Little Mermaid in February. There are roles for students in kindergarten through 12thgrade. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director.  This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary. Available roles include: The Little Mermaid, Celia; her three sisters (Delia, Amelia, and Ophelia); Gil, the Merboy next door; the Royal family including, the Prince, the King and the Queen; the poetic Town Criers, dynamic Scouts, snoopy Seasiders, and galloping Seahorses. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week.

Auditions are from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at the RiverPark Center. Rehersals will take place that week, and performances are at noon Feb. 6 at the RiverPark Center for school groups and 2 p.m. Saturday at the RiverPark Center for the public.
