Study: Too much TV can shorten lifespan

The recently released Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study found that each hour spent watching TV was linked with an 18% greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, an 11% greater risk of all causes of death and a 9% increased risk of death from cancer, according to this Los Angeles Times article.

The article is a reminder that people need to make some time in their schedules for exercise. Most gyms have televisions in them — an hour on a treadmill goes by pretty quickly when you get hooked into a TV show.  Or just get off the couch while you’re watching your favorite show and find some form of exercise you can do in front of the TV.

The study was released in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association.
