‘Belle’ talks about upcoming production of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Liz Shivener is making her national touring debut this year as Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, a Broadway musical based on the 1991 animated movie. The musical follows the plot of the movie — it just has more songs. The show will be in Owensboro next month as part of the BB&T Broadway at the RiverPark Series.

In a recent phone interview, Shivener, 22, said she enjoys playing Belle because she is a smart, spunky character.

“She kind of takes hold of her own future rather than be saved by anyone else,” Shivener said.

The musical has been on tour for a few weeks, and the cast anticipates being on the road for at least a year-and-a-half.

“The story of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ it’s magical. It’s incredible,” Shivener said. “The enchanted castles …  It’s just fun.”

The show is at 7 p.m. on March 8 and 9 at the RiverPark Center. Tickets cost $62.50 and $52.50. For more of my interview with Shivener, check out the March 1 Messenger-Inquirer.
