The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra‘s upcoming concert will feature music from some of the most popular movies ever. Saturday’s concert highlights music by composer John Williams. Selections include the theme from Jaws, music from Star Wars and the Cowboys Overture.
Maestro Nicholas Palmer, music director of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, said the OSO has performed many of Williams’ pieces in the past. Often, the pieces are performed at pops concerts. This is the symphony’s first concert dedicated to Williams’ music, Palmer said.
“His music is among the most popular movie music ever written,” Palmer said.
The OSO is also performing Liberty Fanfare, which was written for the centennial of the Statue of Liberty in 1986, according to Williams’ Web site.
“I wanted to have a variety of music by John Williams showcasing his range of abilities as a composer, Palmer said. “In addition to the really well-known pieces, I wanted to have some less well-known pieces that stand alone …”
